As part of the A Cel Obert 2024 festival, Sunbrella textiles are used to dress a captivating installation designed by Izaskun Chinchilla Architects, entitled “A tu amparo”. Located in the majestic Patio of Tortosa's Episcopal Palace, this work invites visitors to reflect on the idea of refuge, protection and the intensity of human bonds.

This year's theme, INTENSITY, unfolds through a structure inspired by the maternal figure, evoking the security of a “return to the source”. Izaskun Chinchilla reinterprets the symbolism of the Virgin, often depicted offering her protective cloak. The installation is a poignant reminder that in our troubled times, more than ever, we need a safe place to reconnect with ourselves, with others and with the beauty of the world.

An immersive experience of comfort and protection

The installation features two chaise longues, where visitors, alone or accompanied, can recline and immerse themselves in a feeling of comfort and serenity. These chairs are surrounded by two semi-circular screens, designed to create an enclosed space that is both intimate and open. The whole, with its configuration and colors inspired by flowers and meadows, recreates the illusion of a welcoming, natural shelter.

Sculpted birds, seemingly carrying the screens, add a poetic, dreamlike touch to the installation. These elements recall the complicit nature of maternal protection and underline the idea that refuge is not limited to human beings, but encompasses all living things.

A collaborative textile project

Thanks to Sunbrella textiles, the installation blends aesthetics and functionality. The fabrics, chosen for their durability and softness, dress the various elements in warm, soothing hues. Produced in partnership with local craftsmen and volunteers, this collaborative work illustrates the importance of the collective and transmission in artistic design.

By integrating this project into the A Cel Obert festival, Sunbrella is reaffirming its commitment to creativity and sustainable design, while celebrating the values of care and connection.
